The silence of Sunday

We got to experience the 2011 Iditarod this year. The celebration that they have in Anchorage is more ceremonial than the actual race. They get the teams all set up and have them go down 4th Ave and basically introduce themselves. They don't start the race anymore downtown, because, it's too built up now. So they do this and then pack up right after and start the actual race in Willow, AK. It was still really neat to be part of it:)

The dogs were all amped up to be doing what they 'live' to do. It was interesting for me to see the kinds of dogs that were harnessed up. You get this mental image of big, Husky dogs and malamutes and what you get are these guys:)

They were working as a team quite nicely don't you think?

I LOVE that this little old lady was an "Idita-rider". How cool would that be? She looks happy as a clam to be all bundled up in her Shell sponsored sled.

The blue of that dogs eyes are as natural as you get. I did nothing to enhance them in any way. Gorgeous! This last one is of a 'hopeful' racer next year;)

Hope your Sunday is quiet and relaxing and you didn't have to lock your kids in their room to accomplish this...like we did:)

Those are great pictures.
I LOVE the doggie mittens. If my dog hadn't moved to Canada I think I would buy him some. (...I should probably get some since he IS is Canada - but he didn't leave a forwarding address).
