Can't ever over-think it

I had a play date today at 10. This would run fairly close to the end of my workout. I usually get pretty sweaty, and knowing this I decided that I would brave it, and take a shower at the gym. It's pretty clean there and not too big so I could deal. And I really didn't want to go hang out at a friends house all sweaty under my arms and in my butt.
It's only a shower...I don't need to pack for an extended vacation. So I packed my duffel bag and off I went.
Got my sweat on and was feeling pretty good. Went into the shower area, locked the door and then looked at the shower floor. I didn't think about my feet. Oi. What do I do? It can't be that bad. Should I wear my socks in? Or is that stupid? What do I do, what do I do. I turned the shower on...let the stray hairs go down the drain and...got in.
Don't judge me. I know I run the risk of serious bugs. Mental note, next time bring flip flops.
I also need to remember to take a cooler shower cause there's no fan. I felt like I was going through menopause and having the hot flash of my life! I haven't instantly started sweating after a shower since I lived in NH. And...I forgot deodorant. That's just swell. So I get all my clothes on and open up the door cause I can't stand it anymore and not two seconds after I hear my name.

"Meggan"?
'Yaaaah...'
"Ummm _____ kind of had an accident".
'Are you serious?' (obviously she was but apparently I needed to hear it again.)
"yea, she was standing and then peed and then said she had to go"
'ugh. awesome. ok.'

The only positive thing is that it's nice having two children, different ages, that are pretty close in size. So I stripped she-devil from the waste down, put on her brothers blue sno-puff suit and him into her purple coat. I left feeling eyes on me wondering why I was sexually confusing my children.

I guess it all worked out in the end. I got to go home and put deodorant on.

Ants in my pants

It's the time of year again when the "crazy" takes over my brain and I find myself bored. No, technically I'm not 'bored', but find myself uninspired. So when I can't shake the crazies anymore I start searching the Internet. For houses. Moving is always the answer isn't it? Nothing like packing up your life, finding a "new" and "exciting" place to take up residence for a while.

I wonder where this comes from. I lived in one place for 21 years. Then we moved to Utah. And it's been a yearly cycle since then. I can't stay put for very long before I want to do something else. I started a random series of posts about traveling somewhere diff every week...here and here. And I watch HGTV religiously. More than desperate housewives if you can believe that! Point being...I have something in me that can't. sit .still.

This past Friday we went and looked at a house that a friend of Matt's is moving out of. I had built up so much anticipation about this being the house because it was big and had land. Well, the layout sucked and Matt really didn't want the hour+ commute every day. Back to the internet. In the smart part of my head i know it is smarter to stay where we are. The rent is good and we are able to pay down other debts we have. But I'm stir crazy and all of my other hobbies just seem so....boring.

I'll be grateful when the weather gets a little better, and I can find healthier outlets than sitting and daydreaming about going to Puerto Rico, or Ireland and ALL that would be involved in that trip;)

So friends, how do you spend your mid winter days?

Happy Halloween?

If I thought clearly about having my sister here, and what things she may want to do as "sisters"....

I may have thought a little harder....

Meet 'Man-na'

So the little bird 'flew the coop' as they say. And her little wings took her to Alaska!
The kids and I were pretty excited about going to the airport to pick up Aunt Sibil. We even made some cute signs per her request.

She loves the show Adventure Time, so I thought it appropriate to help her feel normal by having her favorite characters plastered all over a giant poster board for fellows airport goers to stare at and ask silly questions. My son was as helpful as he always is, and only complained 87% of the time we were there. In between asking for something to eat after we had just had dinner not even 20 minutes beforehand.

This picture is titled "anguish". Enough said.

There she is!

This was the smile she broadcasted as she saw her sign, and the kids that were so lovingly waiting for her. Then she started crying. I figure it's because she was overcome with the realization that she was stuck in the 'last frontier' with this sign and kids joy and she was finally off the plane:)

And her new name is Manna. (Per the speech inflections of she-devil) Like 'manana' only without the middle 'a'. We are still trying to figure out how you get that out of Sable...

If I don't answer it's because I'm self medicating

Life has been less than calm lately. Our lease ends the last day in August and apparently that just recently sunk into my brain. So I have been all hot and bothered with trying to figure out what we are going to do. B, who will now be referenced as 'Sassy pants' from here on out, starts school in less than a month! (I can't even put into words how excited I am) So school has been on the forefront of my mind. So I've been researching. Since this is our first experience with children doing the school thing I was behind the eight by about a year or so with getting him on a charter school's list. tsk tsk.

Long story longer, our local school is ranked 83rd in a district of 120. In case you were wondering, yes, that is pretty bad.  So the hunt began for a new place to live in a better district. After being on craigslist, for basically 24 hours straight, the heavens opened and a beam of light streamed in my line of sight to a 3 bedroom townhouse across town.
-insert singing angels here-
And the school is ranked...wait for it...wait for it...10th!!!! I have been ecstatic! So we move the end of this month.

Now enter trips to the liquor store and heavy sedatives for the kids

Our daughter, who will now be known as 'she-devil' has:
  • played in the 10 lb bag of flour more than once
  • decided her baby brother makes a fabulous stepping stone
  • gotten the scissors out of the drawer and held the handle in her mouth while walking around the house
  • thrown temper tantrums that I swear will get the DCF called on me
Why is this relevant? Because with this...child...running around how the heck am I supposed to get anything done? Honestly. I would like to know. I still have 2.5 weeks till the hubs gets home and he is planning on only needing one good moving day to get all out of here. PUH!!! Maybe I should ask him what the natives are giving him up there to alter his ability to think rationally...

Cause I would like some too.

p.s.-the wet pb i'm talking about is the dirty knife sitting in the sink, and Bajios is the best Mexican food you will ever eat

Oh the insanity

I most definitely don't have the brain capacity to write out all the details of my super quick trip back east...so I'm sorry. I know how much you are all dying to know ;) Basically it was the worst flying experience I have ever had. On the way out my connecting flight was cancelled so I got to hang out in the Detroit airport for 5 1/2 hours. On the way home my connecting flight was already done boarding when I was taxing in. I had to run from one end of the airport to the other end while carrying a 17 lb baby in a car seat!!!!
Do you know what's uglier than a stretch mark? A bruised stretch mark!
Baby C did great though. I couldn't have asked for a more well behaved child...which is probably why I wasn't more ticked off at the flying mishaps than I could have been. One blessing.

Why go on a three day trip with two days on a plane you ask? Cause my little sister graduated and I am so happy to have been there.

Isn't she pretty:)

Best of all, she got accepted to school here and it looks like she is going to come! She's very nervous so I have to keep coaching her on the 'non-scariness' of it :)

Ok, the kids that I desperately still need a break from are running around crying and whining....so I'm going to go in the other room ;) Till I have more functionality in my brain,
Meg

Motherhood is.....

Like running a prison. You try your darnedest to keep the inmates in line and just when you think you are getting through to them...BAMone of them explodes sending you back 10 steps in the negative because staying at 0 never happens.

Like getting a new puppy and bringing it outside for a nice long romp in the grass only to have it's stamina build up so that it just keeps going and going and going with no end in sight.

Like being in prison. (when your spouse is gone or you are a single mother) There are no breaks. When all you want to do is pee in peace but you can't because someone is always watching you.

Like trying to lose weight. The harder you work at it, and try to be diligent and do what the "experts" say, the harder the let down is when you only lose 0.2 lbs. Or when you say screw it and just forget about keeping track and then see how quickly it all falls apart and you have to start the week over just to break even on your next weigh-in.

I know there are a million other things...so please share them! I need something to keep me from hitting back on grampa's cough syrup!

one more day....one more day...

Soccer, insanity and three days left

I don't know what it is about being separated for any amount of time, but it never fails that the last week is torture. It's torture when he's been gone two weeks, and torture when he's gone six weeks. The first two Sundays were glorious with the kids. All three of them were angels(as much as that's possible). Not this Sunday. Nope, not even little baby C was calm. Miss C was terrorizing the little girl in front of us because she had snacks and my poor starving girl didn't. And then the other little girl had 'my little ponies', which my so very unfortunate little girl did not. I tell you...you would think that we live in a cardboard box and never get to eat or play with any toys!

I forced my son to lay in his bed and take a nap today. There is something seriously wrong with him reaching the decibel he does. I am biding my time until child welfare people come knocking on my door because the neighbors have called and said it sounds like a slaughterhouse here :/ So he napped. Thank the Lord!

The older two have been refusing to go to sleep before 9pm this week. I separate them at night since Miss C has a big girl bed and I don't really want to encourage raising cane at all hours of the night. But it apparently doesn't matter. To top off their lack of snoozing, they also wake up between 630-7. But just this week.

Last Wednesday B started soccer. I put the younger two in our jogging stroller because they have enjoyed it before. Not that night. Baby C refused to sit and play, no, he had to be held. And Miss C refused to have the flap down(which was saving her from the rain sprinkles). And she dumped 80% of her capri sun in her lap.

yes...the last week will test the patience and will power of even the strongest of human beings. I'm counting down to Wednesday...and then Thursday night...when I get a mini-vaca from two of my snot nosed pain in the butt little sweethearts that I will miss soooo very much!

Dare I admit....

As it turns out...I was wrong. I know, I know...Meggan is never wrong;) BUt this wrongness in particular is slightly disturbing. It starts with this:

eaten like this:

And within three days looks like this:

(I'm not even sure it was a whole 3 days)

But we had some help from this:

and this:

their total help equaled this:

And by the end of documenting where our container of Nutella was at...we now have this:

Someone please help me from buying the much larger two-pack from Costco...

muuuuuutha.....knows best!

We bought Tangled last week. We've watched it a few times. I really enjoy the movie as a whole but there's one thing that gets to me.

The evil witch's boobs!

They are like perfect. And Rapunzel is always hugging her and smooshing her face in them! And for a Disney movie...I'm kind of in shock at how much cleavage they let shine through also. Really? Was it necessary to make a mother of three squirm in her chair because she doesn't really want her son to see such immodesty! Of course it's entirely possible that I'm just overreacting. A tad.
Please tell me I'm not the only one that's noticed?

-insert exasperated sigh-

The brain is a piece of work. It never ceases to amaze me how it can trick you into thinking things that are clearly so far from reality that it makes you wonder who could have possibly thought those things. An example of this would be having a baby and within the next three months having that "urge" for another one. No...I am not baby hungry. I learned my lesson 13 months ago on that!
But what I am referring to today is shopping. I love when the weekends get here and we can do things as a family. We got our tax return this past week, even though 97% of it has been spent on catching up and savings, so I have wanted to go out with everyone and get some of the things we have had on our need/want list. All week I have been tricking myself into thinking that it was going to be a fun outing. That the kids will behave and we will be able to think clearly what our goals are.

We went out today.

I am not tarnishing or expanding the truth when I tell you I would have rather have been eaten. By.A.Grizzly.Bear!
The eldest deemed it necessary to tell me every time I did something he didn't like how awful I was. Our dear sweet daughter tried to jump out of the cart every two seconds while the baby babbled and got testy after he filled his britches. Let's not forget the biggest child in the family running around playing swords with the second oldest in a packed store, with people looking at us like we were the freaking Waltons, with our herd of kids! It's three people! Just three! (four if you count Matt)
Can I learn now? Will my brain please stop telling me that this "family time" is really code for giving myself an ulcer! I still have grocery shopping to finish.

I'm going alone.

Ready, set, GO!

Life continues to amaze me. I have three kids. They take up a lot of time. Like a tremendous amount of time. And since being here I've had some moments where it's been rather depressing...and the advice I get? Busy myself with stuff that I like to do. Lol. Do you know how easy that is to say?

Run-down of my day
(in a 24 hour period)

2:00 am- get porky out of his bed to feed him since he is still gracing me with early a.m. wake up calls
6:30 am- get porky out of bed to feed him
6:45->7:30- lay in bed and wake myself up before B comes in to ask if he can get Miss C up
7:30- visit with Miss C when she comes into my room, try to keep her out of the bathroom since she loves playing in toilet water
8:30- get Miss C something to eat because she can't wait any longer and I can't listen to her screech at me any longer
9:00-feed porky
9:30- put porky down for a nap
9:35- get myself something to eat, fight off Miss C from trying to eat my breakfast too
9:45- tell B that I'm getting in the shower and to keep an eye in his sister and to be nice to her
10:05- get out of the bathroom to the sound of Miss C freaking out over who knows what, speak yell at B for picking on his sister and listen to him tell me he wasn't
10:30->12:00- referee two kids as they beat the tar out of each other play between the living room and bedroom.Count down the minutes till Matt gets home for lunch.

12:00->12:30 LUNCH

12:30- Matt puts kids down, I grab porky because it's time for him to visit before his meal
1:00- Matt's back to work and I sit down to feed porky
2:00- put porky down for his afternoon nap and try to figure out what I am going to "busy myself with"
-crochet
-read
-blog
-edit pictures
-learn how to use photoshop
-nap
I've got an hour people! An hour before the kids wake up and the insanity ensues! And the time frame after this hour is a blur as by this point I'm ready for the day to end and Matt to get home and dinner to be over and kids to go to bed. Holy run on sentence! But you get the point. I'm not complaining by any means. It's just another thing to laugh at when I'm asked why I don't do more with my life:) haha!

A day in the life

On a daily basis I observe the following:
sudden onset attacks to un-assuming victims

the distinct sound of a Tasmanian devil

the exchange of words in another foreign tongue

a diva trying to put 3 or 4 shoes on at once

random acts of violence

self inflicting pain in the form of flailing around

periodic moments of seeing if the tv is working by turning it off

If you or anyone you know has an 18 month at home...please.. call your local someone for help! You don't have to suffer alone. 18 month olds aren't a joke...they can hurt!

who's worse?

Our schedule thus far has been to go grocery shopping, as a family, on Saturdays. This will be ending. We can never seem to get out of the house more than an hour before lunch. So by the time we get there the children are starting to turn into the savages we all know so well. And then there's the spouse. I love nothing more than to spend time with him. Seriously. But the whole time we are out I worry about keeping the kids under control so they don't irritate Dad. They can/do irritate me all the time...I'm used to it. Matt on the other hand...really only has so much patience. Between every one and their brother being at the store, B asking for a toy, over, and over and over again, miss C whining because she's hungry along with baby C. ...we all want to rip each others heads off 15 minutes into it. So I get all flustered and end up taking twice as long to find things, or remember what I need to get and then we always seem to forget something.
So I think, I have decided, that I am going to take Saturday morning and have some Zen time by myself in the car. Because the grocery store is pretty much the only place I know how to get to. And since we don't have our cell phones anymore(heavy sobbing) I won't be able to be called....or texted. Oh.My.Gosh! Just think how many arguments we will have on this day when Mom takes 5 hours to buy food! -insert evil laugh-

In other news....it seems that all of our children are sick now. I have been fighting it valiantly with only a slight sore throat. Go me! Baby C continues to get up twice a night :'( If he continues with this trend till the end of March then I'm going to ask the kids' pediatrician if I can start feeding something of more substance. If she says no...I may have to anyway. I need sleep!!! And...I secretly want a big chunky kid! lol. Although...cleaning him like a shar pei isn't the most fun thing to do. Ok, I think it's time to make a getaway! Till then,
Meg
